Hart & Hive and Queen Kitchen was brought to life by Owner and Executive Chef, Sarah Love Hart. Sarah fell in love with cooking from a young age and her passion took her to culinary school at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte. Here she honed her skills and worked tirelessly on her recipes that you will find in our stores today. She specializes in Italian cuisine but all her food is delicious and speaks to her love for cooking. “Cooking for the people I love is my love language,” says Sarah.
Sarah had been thinking of a way to blend two of her favorite things - her food, and her love of gifts, jewelry, and accessories. While running her online jewelry business Belle & Bee as a secondary passion project, the Covid-19 pandemic hit and she and her husband Hunter had to pivot their approach with their northshore restaurant, Brewhaus. They began selling produce boxes and Sarah’s take and bake meals out of the window for people to feed their families delicious home cooked meals. Out of this, Hart & Hive was realized and the Riverview location opened in February, 2021 in the midst of the pandemic. “I never imagined we would be selling hundreds of pounds of chicken salad a week when we first opened and I made the first few batches and put them in our grab and go coolers,” Sarah added. “I love that people can come in and grab a snack, lunch, or dinner to take home or to loved ones. It really is something magical to be able to feed so many families every week.”
In May 2023, Hart & Hive Ooltewah opened to serve our customers on the other side of town after numerous customers asked for a store closer to the growing Ooltewah/ East Brainerd/ Cleveland areas. “It was wild to see the growth and demand for our food in other areas of the Chattanooga metro area and I knew exactly how I wanted the store to look. The murals on the walls in the Ooltewah store are bright and bursting with the energy we put into creating that space. I love that store!”
Later that year, the retail space at Queens Kitchen opened. While we had been using the kitchen space for a while, opening the storefront completed my wish list of retail spaces! Queens Kitchen is a beautiful European market where you can find imported olive oils, sauces and pasta from Italy or authentic French mustards and vinegars. The cooler is packed with local eggs, salad kits, Benton’s Bacon and many more treats to whip up fine meals right at home using the best ingredients.
